But… What makes the chemistry work?

It’s not just about the attraction, though that helps. I think it’s about the way two characters fit together. Maybe they challenge each other, sparring in a way that makes every conversation electric. Maybe they have an intuitive understanding of one another, where even the smallest gestures feel deeply intimate. A brush of the hand; The way one notices when the other’s mood shifts, or the little inside jokes that build over time.

Physical attraction alone isn’t enough to carry a good romance. What makes it truly engaging is the emotional connection behind it. When two characters are undeniably drawn to each other, but something (internal or external) keeps them apart and the tension builds. Maybe they’re reluctant to admit their feelings. Maybe circumstances force them to keep their distance. But, that undeniable pull is what makes every shared moment feel significant, like they’re standing on the edge of something big.
